This week is Spring Break in Kansas City. It's that glorious time sandwiched between the conference tournaments and the national tournament (March Madness). It's the Big Dance, and Cinderella always seems to make an appearance, because in a single-elimination tournament the best team doesn't always win. It just depends on how the ball bounces. Imagine how much more difficult the game would be if they threw more than one game ball on the court at a time.

An interesting thing happens in the game of life for many of us: we end up dribbling the ball off our foot. It’s really hard, after all, to dribble more than one ball at a time.

Reminds me of something I once heard Dr. Kevin Elko say. He said that everyone has to juggle (5) balls in life.

1)    Family

2)    Friends

3)    Health

4)    Integrity

5)    Career

Here’s the interesting thing. The first four balls are crystal. They’re glass. And we’re juggling them almost carelessly, as if dropping one wouldn’t be that big of a deal. The last one (your career) is rubber, but it’s the one people drop the least. Why is that? What’s tied to that last one? Money, prestige, identity, things we all believe are so valuable.

Here’s to hoping each of us (myself included) can keep the balls on the court, can keep our dribble going, and can juggle all of the important balls at the same time. Which probably means slowing down a bit. I don't even think an expert like her could do this fast.
